TOEFL

TOEFL stands for ‘Test of English as a Foreign Language’ which measures a student’s proficiency in English. It evaluates the English understanding and speaking ability of an aspirant. TOEFL is recognized as a verification of English proficiency in more than 9,000 colleges, organizations, universities and various TOEFL participating institutions across 130 countries.

TOEFL is conducted by the ETS (Educational Testing Service)strong>. This test assesses the ability of the non-native English speakers to understand and use the way it is written, read, spoken and heard in a university classroom. Till date, TOEFL is the most influential test that opens up the maximum number of doors of English speaking programs or universities.

TOEFL is divided in two versions namely TOEFL IBT or Internet Based Test and TOEFL PBT or Paper Based Test. Both the versions comprise of four sections namely reading, writing, speaking and listening. You can take this test as many times as you wish. Various governmental agencies and educational agencies across 130 countries consider TOEFL scores when evaluating applications for particular positions or courses. When it comes to admission requirement, apart from the usual course requirements, you may need to obtain a minimum TOEFL score for some courses.

It is important to note that your TOEFL score will have a validity of two years only which means if you don’t apply for an overseas program within this span of two years, you would need to sit for the test again and obtain the required score.
